The duo hakosalo_tuohino – Osmo Hakosalo (kantele) and Jussi Tuohino (computer) – uses the kantele as the sole sound source, extending its acoustic character through advanced playing techniques and digital processing to create immersive soundscapes. Drawing from folk, classical, jazz, and electronic backgrounds, they perform without fixed structures, allowing the music to unfold intuitively. Their performances often use specialized surround sound systems to enhance the immersive listening experience for both audience and performers. The duo was founded in January 2024 in Oulu, Finland, and has already performed both nationally and internationally at renowned festivals such as the Gothenburg Fringe Festival, Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquium (Canada), Jauna Muzika Festival (Lithuania), and Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), and has also given one-off performances in Toronto (Canada) and Sapporo (Japan).
